The Parish Council have explored many options to reduce speeding traffic through the village
At a recent meeting they have had 2 members from ERYC and a Police Officer attend to discuss our concerns and views
The Police Officer agreed to undertake as many random checks through the village as he has the capacity to do. The feedback received so far is that his presence has certainly helped and deterred people from speeding. Unfortunately, however the level of his presence can not be kept up due to workloads
The representatives discussed all the findings from the recent speed surveys and these show that they are no real concerns and vehicles are travelling at the designated speed limits.
Because of the findings they cannot make any changes to the speed limit or have a permanent Safety Road Humbers van present.
They discussed placing 20mph speed limits near to the school junction but their recommendations were not to take this further as sometimes perceptions are that this can cause more accidents and there have been no reported incidents in previous years.
ERYC have agreed to look at improving the speed signage coming into the village from Aldbrough as they think these are hidden in the dip and need to be more prominent. We are currently liaising with them to do this.
The police agreed there was a problem with the junction at Burton Constable Road and pulling out on to the Main Road they agreed to place police cones there to prevent parking on the corner this seems to have improved the situation here. Again we are liaising with ERYC for double yellows lined to be placed at this junction
The Police have advised that the majority of cars that have been stopped recently for speeding have been residents of the village.
For the safety of everyone, please respect the speed limit and keep our village and all residents safe.
